1st edition WFRP rulebook

One cannot play/GM first edition WFRP as I have without expanding the information contained within the basic rulebook or including some of the additional information found within the various GW/Flame/Hogshead products. This page not only contains references to the other official WFRP products, but also material developed by myself, sometimes with the effort others (who are named where appropriate).

Obligatory copyright statement. I am posting the following material that I have written for use only in a GM's home campaign. I reserve all rights to the descriptive material, including locations and characters, while system-specific material is copyrighted by GW. Material written with others, which implies a shared copyright, will be duly noted.

Gunpowder Weapons Misfire Table
Roderic d'Arcon and I worked on clarifying and expanding upon the Advanced Misfires table which appeared in Apocrypha Now, page 41 (which was, in turn, intended to expand upon that which appeared in the WFRP rulebook, page 129.

Section 4: Magic

I never really had a beef with the first edition WFRP magic system other than some of the Druidic spells seem to be Elemental in natural while some of the Elemental spells seem to be better placed as Druidic. Having said that, I think that the magic could only be helped by having more spells to add to those from the rulebook and Realms of Sorcery. Some of my inspiration comes from Ken Rolston's draft version of RoS and RoDM. I am also inspired by some of the spells that come from Call of Cthulhu RP game.

Laurëlorn Elf Sorcery
This expansion of the type of sorcery used by NPC Elf wizards from the Laurëlorn Forest comes from a manuscript I wrote with Martin Oliver and Tim Eccles with a little help from Ryan Wileman . The Eldritch Watchers are intended to be a big surprise to PCs who dare to enter the Laurëlorn Forest with evil intent.

Battle Spells
Like the other spells below, the list of new spells -- meant to augment those in the WFRP rulebook and Realms of Sorcery sourcebook -- will be amended when I have more spells to add. One of the two presented here appeared in the Gathering Darkness: Rising Shadow scenario while the other was associated with a tome mentioned in the Wissenland sourcebook. I have also added other spells that I had initially adapted from Chaosium's "Dark Design" scenario to 2nd edition WFRP (in the article I wrote "Where Has All the Magic Gone?", see below). The spells in this manuscript are 1st edition versions.

Necromantic Spells
Some of the spells on this list first appeared in the Gathering Darkness campaign that can be found in the Scenarios page. Others were briefly mentioned in some of the tomes described in the Wissenland sourcebook under the Secret Societies section.

Chaos Spells
If anything in WFRP 1st edition needed to be expanded, it's the Chaos spells detailed in Realms of Sorcery pages 234-236. The two listed here for Tzeentch are mentioned in the tomes described in the Wissenland sourcebook.

Skaven Spells
These spells are meant to augmnent what appeared in Realms of Sorcery pages 236-238. The spells first appeared in Tim Eccles' Origin of Tree Worship #4.

Waaagh! Orc Spells
These spells are meant to augment what appeared in Realms of Sorcery pages 238-239. The spells first appeared in the "Gathering Darness: Conquering Darkness" scenario.

Divine Spells
One of the things I liked about Ken Rolston's Realms of Divine Magic manuscript was that the various religious cults had one or more divine spells specific to an individual cult, keeping in the tradition of the "Mistaken Identity" where a unique spell for the Cult of Sigmar was introduced on pages 22-23 of the Hogshead version of "Shadows over Bogenhafen". Moreover, Graeme Davis presented more cult specific spells and rituals -- this time for the cult of Mórr -- in Apocrypha 2: Charts of Darkness, pages 26-28. In our proposal for a Realms of Sorcery sourcebook for Hogshead, Anthony and I intended to continue this practice to differentiate the priests of the individual cults. The spells presented here came from various sources many of which can be found in other manuscripts at this site. One of these, Retribution, did officially appear in Dwarfs: Stone and Steel, page 74, for the cult of Gazul.

Laurëlorn Elf Deities

The Wood Elves of the Laurëlorn share many traits, behaviours, and attitudes with their kin in the Loren Forest. They also share the same deities, though there are no priests or observances for the cults of Khaela Mensha Khaine and Morai-Heg. The reasons for this are unclear, and the Laurëlornalim offer no explanations. Some theologians speculate that the worship of Khaela Mensha Khaine has vanished in part due to the deity's obvious connection to the proscribed human cult of Kháine.

The Laurëlorn cults share a number of traits. All require the Elves to lead a life that many human scholars classify as "good" or "neutral" (this labelling is, of course, more indicative of the lack of understanding of Elves among such scholars).

There are also no constructed places of worship for believers to congregate. Elves do not worship require a place to worship, unlike humans. There are times, however, that Wood Elves will gather at a location deemed suitable for celebrating the gifts and munificence of the respective deity. Such locations may be a spring of cool water, grove of large trees, tall hilltop, or a cascading waterfall. Stone megaliths and circles are viewed as places of power.

Laurëlornalim cults tend to have respect and reverence for the Old Faith, which shares many views with the Wood Elf religion. Those scholars who are oblivious to the differences claim that the Old Faith derived many of its beliefs from those of the Wood Elves. The Wood Elves humour this type of "quaintness" when they are made aware of this view. The Wood Elf cults are also well disposed towards followers of Taal and Rhya. The Laurëlornalim are indifferent towards the cults of other human deities, although they are very wary of the cults of Ulric and Sigmar. The political aspirations of the leaders of these two cults cause great concerns and threaten the Laurëlorn.

The attitude towards the Dwarfen pantheon varies from contempt to condescending amusement. In contrast, the Chaos cults and the deities of Orcs and Goblins are viewed with utter disdain and hostility. All who worship these beings are to be exterminated.

Adamnan-Na-Brionha: The Lord of the Dance
Apocrypha Now, page 76.

Isha
The cult descriptions for the deities of the Laurëlorn Elves comes from a manuscript I wrote with Martin Oliver and Tim Eccles with a little help from Ryan Wileman. As such, these descriptions are a little different than the ones Anthony Ragan and I developed for our proposed version of Realms of Divine Magic, which I used for the non-Elven cult descriptions on this site. This cult description (with some modifications) first appeared in the Laurelorn Elves manuscript below.

Kurnuous
First appeared as Karnos, Lord of the Beasts in Apocrypha Now, page 67. As GW later changed the name of the Elven deity to Kurnuous, the Apocrypha Now cult description for Karnos can be considered as applicable to human priests of Karog in the areas of Middenland and Talabecland where his worship is popular among hunters and trappers. The linked description to Kurnuous appeared in the Laurelorn Elves manuscript (linked below).

Liadriel
This cult description is an elaboration of the brief one that appeared in the WFRP 1e rulebook. It first appeared in the Laurelorn Elves manuscript below.

Sarriel

Torothal

Cult of Kern
The cult of Kern is one example of the demi-god or hero cults that spring up from time to time among the Laurëlornalim. First mentioned in the box set of Skarloc's Wood Elf Archers, which was released by Games Workshop in 1987.

Halfling Deities

The Pilgrim
This Halflig deity was created by Ken Rolston in his "Realms of Divine Magic" manuscript. I have adapted and revised it into the format Anthony Ragan and I intended for our version of the book for Hogshead Publishing.

Gods of Chaos

Horned Rat
Realms of Sorcery, page 129

Gods of Law

Solkan
Another revised and expanded description of a deity mentioned briefly in the first edition rulebook. This version first appeared in "Gathering Darkness: Grim Pursuits" scenario.

Myths, Legends, and Superstitions

Other than the story of the founding of the City of the White Wolf, Middenheim, there are few stories or myths of the Warhammer Gods that the common people -- like player characters -- would know from their upbringing. This section is intended bring some of these common beliefs, legends or superstitions to GMs and players.

Creation of the Eye of the Forest
This story of the Gods was written by Anthony Ragan and myself for the Warpstone Talabheim project. When we first submitted it, we used the name of Ormazd for the Sun God. First introduced in Ken Rolston's RoDM, Ormazd was intended to be the God of the Arabians, a people who in the early Warhammer material engaged in monotheism. John Foody and Ryan Wileman considered the name "Ormazd" too foreign sounding for Imperials. Ryan came up with the name "Oermath" and the name change was made for Warpstone 16. In Gathering Darkness campaign, I also used the name "Oermath," so this article appears here with the name change.

Nights of Dread
In the WFRP material, the Chaos moon Morrslieb is given some prominence in "Shadows Over Bogenhafen." I did likewise in my "Gathering Darkness: Conquering Darkness" scenario. In that same adventure, I provided more information about the Chaos Moon as well as the dreaded nights of Geheimnisnacht and Hexensnacht, which I present here.

Olric's Saga
A telling of an ancient Norse myth surrounding Olric (Ulric) by Anthony Ragan and myself. The original version of the saga appeared in Origin of Tree Worship #7. I have made a few minor changes on this piece.

Section 7: The World Guide

History of the World:Chaos

History of Chaos
This article was co-written with Anthony Ragan and accompanied our proposal to write the WFRP RoC for Hogshead. This article appeared in Tim Eccles' Origin of Tree Worship #5. This article has also been translated, I believe, for Le Grimoire.

History of the World:Timelines

Timelines are my thing apparently. I compiled quite a few of them from 1st edition WFRP sources (including unofficial) as well as Warhammer Battle through 5th edition. I once had a master list posted to thie website, but I later broke these down to more manageable lists for various regions of the Old World.

Empire timeline
This timeline includes entries from Warpstone articles (with permission from the authors) up to 2002. In few cases, these entries were altered slightly to remove some inconsistency between WFRP/ WFB sources. In addition, some of these entries may be at odds with the timeline for the entire Old World that I had previously developed as I haven't taken the time (yet) to bring them in line. Moreover, I have now included entries that have been developed for Tim Eccles' "A Private War." These entries were created in conjunction with Tim and Ryan Wileman. Lastly, entries for Kislev and Marienburg/Wasteland have been included so as to not unduly upset the most rabid of Sigmarites out there.

Altdorf history
This article appeared in Strike to Stun #6 and provides the history of Altdorf, which is intertwined with that of the Empire and Reikland. It was co-written with Arne Dam.

Sylvania history
This piece appeared in Strike-to-Stun #3. It includes contributions from Arne Dam, Tim Eccles, Anthony Ragan, and Ryan Wileman. These is also a gazetteer included.

The Great War Against Chaos
A slightly different piece that was inspired in part by the piece written by Arne Dam for Strike-to-Stun #5.This includes a timeline for Kislev (before GW revised it in later canon) as well as a gazetteer.

Southern Old World timeline
This historical summary and timelines have been dramatically revised from that which was created for Le Grimoire's Sartosa project. The background is now more in line with GW's Dogs of War supplement. Arne Dam developed additional material and the members of the Collegium Historica contributed ideas to this article. This piece appeared in Strike-to-Stun #4.

The Empire:

List of Emperors
I've moved this list of Emperors compiled by Arne Dam to the 1st edition WFRP rulebook as he continues to adjust this list using the newer material (even if 2nd edition). Anthony Ragan and I have provided some minimal assistance. Permission to include this on-going project on this site has been granted.

Secret Societies

In addition to various secret Chaos cults like the Purple Hand running around the urban centres of the Old World, there should also be other secretive groups operating to advance their own agendas. The following are some I have created to provide other possibilities that GMs could use to help or hinder PCs.

Brotherhood of Antiquarians
This secret society first appears in the Gathering Darkness campaign and the Pfeildorf sourcebook. It is loosely associated with the Cult of Verena.

Seekers of the Truth Society
This secret society is closely aligned with the Cult of Verena and and an umbrella organization for several more narrowly defined orders. It first appears in the Gathering Darkness campaign.

Karaz Ankor (Dwarf Empire):

List of Dwarf High Kings
This project was begun by Benoît Dumeaux and Emmanuel Chaineux. I was asked to join the project and helped resolve a few issues as well as come up with a number of names and years of reign.
